Abstract: Many data literacy efforts focus on determining how to increase the capacity of data professionals. Greater leverage of organizational data assets can be gained by increasing the data literacy of all organizational knowledge workers because all work with data. Currently knowledge workers learn about data individually (if at all). The opportunity to gain from communal or best practices learning has not been present. Lack of this data knowledge has so far hindered society from fully realizing our collective potential benefits. More importantly, organizations adopting these data knowledge requirements can directly and immediately improve organizational knowledge worker productivity. This program makes the case for knowledge worker data literacy and illustrates a fraction of the potential gains that can be obtained as a result.
Peter Aiken, an acknowledged Data Management (DM) authority, is an Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, past President DAMA International, and Associate Director of the MIT International Society of Chief Data Officers. For more than 35 years, Peter has learned from working with hundreds of data management practices in 30 countries including some of the world’s most important. Among his 10 books are the first on CDOs (the case for data leadership), the first describing the monetization data for profit/good, and the first on modern strategic data thinking. International recognition has resulted in an intensive schedule of events worldwide.
